Biography

Character portrait of Sherman in
The Shoemaker's Holiday (1938)
Hiram Sherman was born in Boston, Massachusetts.
He made his Broadway debut as a playwright with the short-lived comedy Too Much Party in 1934.[1]
The farce, directed by William Friedlander, opened at the Theatre Masque on March 5, 1934, and closed after only eight performances.
It proved to be his sole attempt at writing. Two years later he made his Broadway debut as an actor in the Federal Theatre Project's Horse Eats Hat.[1]
Additional theatre credits include the inaugural Mercury Theatre productions Caesar and The Shoemaker's Holiday,[2]:339–340Very Warm for May, Cyrano de Bergerac, Boyd's Daughter (which he also directed) and Mary, Mary. He won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Two's Company and How Now, Dow Jones.[1] He appeared in London's West End as Matthew Cuthbert in the British premiere of Anne of Green Gables.
Sherman's many television credits include such early anthology series as Kraft Television Theatre, Studio One, The Alcoa Hour, and Hallmark Hall of Fame and a regular role on The Tammy Grimes Show. His feature films included The Solid Gold Cadillac, Mary, Mary, in which he reprised his role in the play, and Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mamma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad.[1]
Sherman died of a stroke in Springfield, Illinois in 1989, aged 81.[1]

Electric locomotive Škoda ChS4-109. The Moscow — Odessa train in Vinnytsia railway station. The Siemens ES64U4, is the current confirmed holder as the fastest electric locomotive at 357 km/h (222 mph) in 2006. An electric locomotive is a locomotive powered by electricity from overhead lines, a third rail or on-board energy storage such as a battery or a supercapacitor. Electric locomotives with on-board fueled prime movers, such as diesel engines or gas turbines, are classed as diesel-electric or gas turbine-electric and not as electric locomotives, because the electric generator/motor combination serves only as a power transmission system. Electric locomotives benefit from the high efficiency of electric motors, often above 90% (not including the inefficiency of generating the electricity). Additional efficiency can be gained from regenerative braking, which allows kinetic energy to be recovered during braking to put power back on the line. Newer electric locomotives ...
